Ripples in the River
RIPPLES IN THE RIVER follows Lucy Adams, founder of the ethical fashion project Feed the World, whose seamstress and friend Rosa Martinez is arrested by ICE on Tampa’s Riverwalk. Terrified that speaking out will alienate donors and destroy the business she has built, Lucy hesitates until a mysterious stranger, resembling the John Lennon statue at the nearby Biltmore Hotel, appears and shows her supernatural visions of what her silence will cost, and what courage might make possible. Guided by the memory of her own grandmother, who came to America without papers and was sheltered by neighbors who risked something for a stranger, Lucy chooses to speak publicly for Rosa, losing major donors but gaining a community, and standing with Rosa’s frightened children through a fight that offers no guarantees. RIPPLES IN THE RIVER is a play about the difference between neutrality and complicity, and about choosing courage again and again, even when it costs you something.
