Submission Guidelines

Erb Publishing works with playwrights to bring new scripts to schools, community theaters, and independent producers looking for material worth staging. We publish and license full-length plays, one-act plays, ten-minute plays, and monologues across all genres. If your work fits, we want to see it.

What We’re Looking For

  • Full-length plays, generally 60 minutes or longer
  • One-act plays
  • Ten-minute plays
  • Monologues, whether standalone or in a themed collection

All genres are welcome, comedy, drama, musical (book and lyrics), family and youth theater, and work aimed at competition or educational use. We’re especially interested in scripts that are easy for a school or community theater to produce: manageable cast sizes, a single or simple set, and a clear, playable arc.

What We Don’t Accept

  • Work that is not written by a human author. We do not publish AI-generated scripts, in whole or in part.
  • Work currently under an active exclusive license or contract with another publisher
  • Work that infringes on someone else’s copyright, includes unlicensed quoted material, or is based on copyrighted characters or storylines without permission
  • Incomplete drafts or works in progress. We review finished, production-ready scripts only.

Submission Format

Please send your script as a single PDF with the following included:

  • A title page with the play’s title, your name, and your contact information (email and phone)
  • A character breakdown, listing cast size and any doubling notes
  • Approximate running time
  • A short synopsis, one paragraph is fine
  • Production history, if any, including any awards, readings, or prior stagings

Standard script formatting is expected. If you’re not sure your formatting is standard, that’s fine, just tell us and we’ll take a look regardless.

How to Submit

Use the form below to submit your play. We aim to confirm receipt within a few business days.

Paste a shareable link to your script, PDF preferred, from Google Drive, Dropbox, or a similar service. Please make sure the link is set to allow viewing.
A brief synopsis of the play, one or two paragraphs.

Prefer email? Send your script and materials directly to submissions@erb-publishing.com. Use the subject line “Submission: [Play Title]”. We’ll confirm receipt within a few business days.

Simultaneous submissions to other publishers are fine. Just let us know if your play is accepted elsewhere while we’re still reading it, so we’re not duplicating anyone’s time.

What Happens Next

We aim to respond within 8 to 12 weeks of receiving a submission. Because we’re a smaller, newer publisher, we read closely and respond directly, most submissions won’t sit for months without word. Please hold off on status check-in emails until that window has passed.

If your play is accepted, it receives a free digital listing in our catalog at no cost to you, including cover art, synopsis, and licensing information. Several titles are now available as printed paperbacks through our print partner and can be ordered directly through our shop for theaters that want a bound script.
Submitting your play to us does not transfer any rights, it’s simply an invitation for us to consider your work. You keep full ownership and control of your script unless and until you sign an agreement with us.
