Secrets of the Rinehart Legacy
SECRETS OF THE RINEHART LEGACY is a mystery-comedy in three acts inspired by the life and legacy of novelist Mary Roberts Rinehart. Sarah Harper, a struggling mystery playwright, arrives at the real Cabbage Key Inn on Florida’s Gulf Coast seeking inspiration and instead finds herself among five strangers, a historian, a treasure hunter, a cryptologist, an artist, and a digital forensics expert, each separately drawn to the island by planted clues. Guided by the inn’s enigmatic innkeeper, Mrs. Bentley, the group uncovers a hidden room, a buried cipher, and ultimately a cache of letters Rinehart sealed away decades earlier: documented evidence that the Innes family’s land was stolen through fraud, arson, and a bought investigation in the 1920s, evidence Rinehart could not safely publish in her own lifetime. As the group races to authenticate the discovery before the family responsible for the fraud can bury it again, they are joined by Delphine Innes, the great-great-granddaughter who has been quietly watching the island for years. Blending genuine warmth and comedy with a true reckoning about whose stories get remembered, SECRETS OF THE RINEHART LEGACY is about the particular kind of faith it takes to trust that the truth will eventually find the right people, even if it takes a hundred years.
